  SIN AND THE LAW—RO 6 AND 7 Pt 4

(Subjects in this Section)
It is written, THEREFORE BY THE DEEDS (or legalistic observance or works) OF THE LAW THERE SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED IN HIS SIGHT: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN (Torah…does…show people how sinful they are)-Ro 3:20.

The word "law" is mentioned in the Kings James Version of the Bible
  approximately 578 times.
     The word "law" first
appears in the Bible as pertaining to a set of rules in Gen 47:26. It is written,
AND JOSEPH MADE IT A LAW OVER THE LAND OF EGYPT UNTO THIS DAY, THAT PHARAOH
SHOULD HAVE THE FIFTH PART; EXCEPT THE LAND OF THE PRIESTS ONLY, WHICH BECAME
NOT PHARAOH'S-Gen 47:26. The second is, ONE LAW SHALL BE TO HIM THAT IS HOMEBORN,
AND UNTO THE STRANGER THAT SOJOURNETH AMONG YOU-Ex 12:49
God's laws reveal that He cares
about every aspect of His people's lives, as well as the nation and government
as a whole. God expected His people to worship Him and to obey His Word. He
expected them to love Him and serve Him with all their heart. If the local community,
or nation, or religious leaders themselves went astray, still God expected His
people to follow His Word. If they did not, they would be held responsible.
     Many different laws were given
in the first five books of Moses. There are laws regarding human life, slaves,
marriage, the family, sex, tithing, clothing, property, and dealing with other
  nations and people.
     There were laws about loaning,
borrowing, and repayment of debts, as well as the restitution a thief was to
  make.
     There were laws regarding a
legal system. If a person bore false witness, he could suffer the same penalty
as the accused. The number of witnesses whose testimony had to be in agreement
was also covered. A person refusing to accept the verdict of the judge might
be put to death. There were laws pertaining to those that sat in judgment. There
were laws regarding all manner of crimes.
     There were laws about rejecting
God and causing others to do the same. There were laws regarding worshipping
  other gods, witchcraft, and astrology.
     There were laws regarding animals,
  birds, and eggs.
     There were laws regarding worship,
  the priests, and sacrifices.
     There were laws regarding the
  government, leaders, and military service.
     There were laws regarding selling
  and proper weights.
     There were laws regarding what
  a person eats.
     There were rules pertaining
to sickness, death, childbearing, and a woman's monthly menstrual period.
There was the law of the Passover,
the burnt offerings, the meat offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering,
and others. There was the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, the law regarding
lepers, and the law for him that sinneth.
     The first reference to "walking
in God's law" appears to be in Ex16:4. It is written, THEN SAID THE LORD
UNTO MOSES, BEHOLD, I WILL RAIN BREAD FROM HEAVEN FOR YOU; AND THE PEOPLE SHALL
GO OUT AND GATHER A CERTAIN RATE EVERY DAY, THAT I MAY PROVE THEM, WHETHER
THEY WILL WALK IN MY LAW, OR NO.
     The first reference to
"the Law" as God gave it, appears to be in Ex 24:12. It is written,
AND THE LORD SAID UNTO MOSES, COME UP TO ME INTO THE MOUNT, AND BE THERE: AND
  I WILL GIVE THEE
TABLES OF STONE,
AND A LAW,
AND COMMANDMENTS

WHICH I HAVE WRITTEN; THAT THOU MAYEST TEACH THEM.
     What is called "the Law"
is very exact, detailed, and covers many issues. It may be said to cover three
areas. These are testimonies, statutes, and judgments. It is written, AND THIS
IS THE LAW WHICH MOSES SET BEFORE THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL: THESE ARE THE
     (1) TESTIMONIES, AND
  THE
     (2) STATUTES, AND THE
     (3) JUDGMENTS, WHICH
MOSES SPAKE UNTO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, AFTER THEY CAME FORTH OUT OF EGYPT-Deut
  4:44,45.
     (4) Ordinances which contain
commandments (ref Eph 2:15) are also referred to in many Scriptures such as
Lk 1:6; Ex 18:20; etc. Therefore, we may say, the Law consists of testimonies,
statutes, ordinances which include commandments, and then judgments. This order
  is not always the same.
Thus, the Law may be said to
be a system of testimonies, statutes, ordinances including commandments, and
judgments for the people to obey, and for a system to govern the people in the
Promised Land. Some may say it is summarized in the Ten Commandments, or it
may be said there is the Law and the commandments. As it is written, I WILL
GIVE THEE (Moses) TABLES OF STONE, AND A LAW, AND COMMANDMENTS-Ex 24:12.
It is further written, IF YE WALK IN MY STATUTES, AND KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS,
  AND DO THEM-Lev 26:3.
Thus, from Moses, came forth the first five books of the Old Testament.
    The
Jewish word "Torah" means "teaching". Often-times,
  it is translated as "Law."
     1. This may be said to include
the five books of Moses, also called the Pentateuch, which is called the Written
Torah. Jesus had said, THINK NOT THAT I AM COME TO DESTROY THE LAW-Mt 5:17.
     2. Jesus also referred to the
Psalms as the Law. It is written, Jesus said, THAT IS WRITTEN IN THEIR LAW,
THEY HATED ME WITHOUT A CAUSE-Jn 15:25. Twice in the Psalms this is used. It
appears in Ps 35:19 and Ps 69:4. It is also written, JESUS ANSWERED THEM, IS
IT NOT WRITTEN IN YOUR LAW, I SAID, YE ARE GODS?-Jn 10:34, referring to Ps 82:6.
     3. There is also additional
material or Oral Torah. It is written, BEHOLD, I PAUL SAY UNTO YOU, THAT IF
YE BE CIRCUMCISED, CHRIST SHALL PROFIT YOU NOTHING. FOR I TESTIFY AGAIN TO EVERY
MAN THAT IS CIRCUMCISED, THAT HE IS A DEBTOR TO DO THE WHOLE LAW-Gal 5:2,3.
     4. Torah can also be translated
to mean a "law" or "principle", instead of meaning "the
Law". It is written, I FIND THEN A LAW, THAT, WHEN I WOULD DO GOOD, EVIL
  IS PRESENT WITH ME-Ro 7:21.
     5. The Jewish word Tanakh (representing
the Old Testament) is often translated in the New Testament versions as "Scripture"
or "it is written." The Tanakh contains the three parts of the Hebrew
Bible: the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings (Psalms, etc.).
     (Note-Grateful appreciation
is extended to David H. Stern, translator of the Jewish New Testament for some
of the information on the previous five points).
    Before
Moses died, he wrote the Law that had been given to him by God. He also gave
very specific instructions. It is written, AND MOSES WROTE THIS LAW, AND DELIVERED
IT UNTO THE PRIESTS THE SONS OF LEVI, WHICH BARE THE ARK OF THE COVENANT OF
THE LORD, AND UNTO ALL THE ELDERS OF ISRAEL. AND MOSES COMMANDED THEM, SAYING,
AT THE END OF EVERY SEVEN YEARS, IN THE SOLEMNITY OF THE YEAR OF RELEASE, IN
THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES, WHEN ALL ISRAEL IS COME TO APPEAR BEFORE THE LORD
THY GOD IN THE PLACE WHICH HE SHALL CHOOSE, THOU SHALT READ THIS LAW BEFORE
  ALL ISRAEL IN THEIR HEARING.
     GATHER THE PEOPLE TOGETHER,
MEN, AND WOMEN, AND CHILDREN, AND THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES, THAT
THEY MAY HEAR, AND THAT THEY MAY LEARN, AND FEAR THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND OBSERVE
TO DO ALL THE WORDS OF THIS LAW: AND THAT THEIR CHILDREN, WHICH HAVE NOT KNOWN
ANY THING, MAY HEAR, AND LEARN TO FEAR THE LORD YOUR GOD, AS LONG AS YE LIVE
IN THE LAND WHITHER YE GO OVER JORDAN TO POSSESS IT.
AND THE LORD SAID UNTO MOSES,
BEHOLD, THY DAYS APPROACH THAT THOU MUST DIE-Deut 31:9-14.
God gave instructions for the future kings of Israel. It is written, AND IT SHALL BE, WHEN HE SITTETH UPON THE THRONE OF HIS KINGDOM, THAT HE SHALL WRITE HIM A COPY OF THIS LAW IN A BOOK OUT OF THAT WHICH IS BEFORE THE PRIESTS THE LEVITES: AND IT SHALL BE WITH HIM, AND HE SHALL READ THEREIN ALL THE DAYS OF HIS LIFE: THAT HE MAY LEARN TO FEAR THE LORD HIS GOD, TO KEEP ALL THE WORDS OF THIS LAW AND THESE STATUTES, TO DO THEM-Deut 17:18,19.
Regarding keeping the Law, it is written, CURSED BE HE THAT CONFIRMETH NOT ALL THE WORDS OF THIS LAW TO DO THEM. AND ALL THE PEOPLE SHALL SAY, AMEN-Deut 27:26.

LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE-Ro 8:2
      LAW OF TRUTH-Mal 2:6
      Law of works-ref Ro 3:27
      ROYAL LAW-Ja 2:8
As already mentioned, the Law was given to Moses by God, which in turn was given by Moses to the children of Israel. It is written, FOR THE LAW WAS GIVEN BY MOSES-Jn 1:17.

It is written, KNOW THAT WHAT THINGS SOEVER THE LAW SAITH, IT SAITH TO
THEM WHO ARE UNDER THE LAW: THAT EVERY MOUTH MAY BE STOPPED, AND ALL THE
WORLD MAY BECOME GUILTY BEFORE GOD-Ro 3:19.
     KNOWING THIS, THAT THE LAW
IS NOT MADE FOR A RIGHTEOUS MAN, BUT FOR THE LAWLESS AND DISOBEDIENT,
FOR THE UNGODLY AND FOR SINNERS, FOR UNHOLY AND PROFANE, FOR MURDERERS OF FATHERS
AND MURDERERS OF MOTHERS, FOR MANSLAYERS, FOR WHOREMONGERS, FOR THEM THAT DEFILE
THEMSELVES WITH MANKIND, FOR MENSTEALERS, FOR LIARS, FOR PERJURED PERSONS, AND
IF THERE BE ANY OTHER THING THAT IS CONTRARY TO SOUND DOCTRINE-1 Tim 1:9,10.

It is written, BUT BEFORE FAITH CAME, WE WERE KEPT UNDER THE LAW,
SHUT UP UNTO THE FAITH WHICH SHOULD AFTERWARDS BE REVEALED-Gal 3:23.
FOR ALL THE PROPHETS AND THE
  LAW PROPHESIED UNTIL JOHN-Mt 11:13.
     Indeed, THE LAW AND THE
PROPHETS WERE UNTIL JOHN: SINCE THAT TIME THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS PREACHED,
AND EVERY MAN PRESSETH INTO IT-Lk 16:16.

It is written, FOR VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, TILL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS, ONE
JOT OR ONE TITTLE SHALL IN NO WISE PASS FROM THE LAW, TILL ALL BE
  FULFILLED-Mt 5:18.
For IT IS EASIER FOR HEAVEN
AND EARTH TO PASS, THAN ONE TITTLE OF THE LAW TO FAIL-Lk 16:17.
8-BY
THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN:
SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW

It is written, BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN-Ro 3:20.
     For WHOSOEVER COMMITTETH SIN
TRANSGRESSETH ALSO THE LAW: FOR SIN IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW-1
  Jn 3:4.
 9-THE
  LAW AND THE PROPHETS
  WERE READ IN THE SYNAGOGUE

AND AFTER THE READING OF THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS THE RULERS OF THE SYNAGOGUE SENT UNTO THEM, SAYING, YE MEN AND BRETHREN, IF YE HAVE ANY WORD OF EXHORTATION FOR THE PEOPLE, SAY ON-Acts 13:15.

It is written, THEN ONE OF THEM, WHICH WAS A LAWYER, ASKED HIM A QUESTION, TEMPTING
HIM, AND SAYING, MASTER, WHICH IS THE GREAT COMMANDMENT IN THE LAW? JESUS
SAID UNTO HIM, THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART,
AND WITH ALL THY SOUL, AND WITH ALL THY MIND. THIS IS THE FIRST
AND GREAT COMMANDMENT. AND THE SECOND IS LIKE UNTO IT, THOU SHALT LOVE THY
NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF. ON THESE TWO COMMANDMENTS HANG ALL THE LAW
  AND THE PROPHETS-Mt 22:35-40.
HE SAID UNTO HIM, WHAT IS WRITTEN
IN THE LAW? HOW READEST THOU? AND HE ANSWERING SAID, THOU SHALT LOVE THE
LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART, AND WITH ALL THY SOUL, AND
WITH ALL THY STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL THY MIND; AND THY NEIGHBOUR
AS THYSELF. AND HE SAID UNTO HIM, THOU HAST ANSWERED RIGHT: THIS DO,
  AND THOU SHALT LIVE-Lk 10:26-28.
OWE NO MAN ANY THING, BUT TO
LOVE ONE ANOTHER: FOR HE THAT LOVETH ANOTHER HATH FULFILLED THE LAW-Ro
  13:8.
    LOVE
WORKETH NO ILL TO HIS NEIGHBOUR: THEREFORE LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW-Ro
  13:10.
FOR ALL THE LAW IS FULFILLED
IN ONE WORD, EVEN IN THIS; THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF-Gal
  5:14.
IF YE FULFIL THE ROYAL LAW
ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURE, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF,
YE DO WELL: BUT IF YE HAVE RESPECT TO PERSONS, YE COMMIT SIN, AND ARE CONVINCED
OF THE LAW AS TRANSGRESSORS. FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL KEEP THE WHOLE LAW, AND YET
OFFEND IN ONE POINT, HE IS GUILTY OF ALL-Ja 2:8-10.
     THEREFORE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER
YE WOULD THAT MEN SHOULD DO TO YOU, DO YE EVEN SO TO THEM: FOR THIS IS THE
  LAW AND THE PROPHETS-Mt 7:12.

A comprehensive study of all that the Law says could involve volumes of material,
if commentaries were included. Only two things have been included here.
     It is written, DOTH OUR
LAW JUDGE ANY MAN, BEFORE IT HEAR HIM, AND KNOW WHAT HE DOETH?-Jn 7:51.
IT IS ALSO WRITTEN IN YOUR
LAW, THAT THE TESTIMONY OF TWO MEN IS TRUE-Jn 8:17.
12-WEIGHTIER
  MATTERS OF THE LAW

Some items in the Law are far more important than others. Keeping certain feast
days for example, were extremely important. These should be covered in detail
further along in the Doctrines course The following verse demonstrates that
"tithing" was important, but "judgment, mercy, and faith"
  were much more important.
It is written, WOE UNTO YOU,
SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! FOR YE PAY TITHE OF MINT AND ANISE AND CUMMIN,
AND HAVE OMITTED THE WEIGHTIER MATTERS OF THE LAW, JUDGMENT, MERCY, AND FAITH:
THESE OUGHT YE TO HAVE DONE, AND NOT TO LEAVE THE OTHER UNDONE-Mt 23:23.

It is written, DID NOT MOSES GIVE YOU THE LAW, AND YET NONE OF YOU KEEPETH
  THE LAW?-Jn 7:19.
     WHO HAVE RECEIVED THE LAW
BY THE DISPOSITION OF ANGELS, AND HAVE NOT KEPT IT-Acts 7:53.

Before grace came, the teaching was as follows. It is written, BUT THERE ROSE
UP CERTAIN OF THE SECT OF THE PHARISEES WHICH BELIEVED, SAYING, THAT IT WAS
NEEDFUL TO CIRCUMCISE THEM, AND TO COMMAND THEM TO KEEP THE LAW OF MOSES-Acts
  15:5.
     FORASMUCH AS WE HAVE HEARD,
THAT CERTAIN WHICH WENT OUT FROM US HAVE TROUBLED YOU WITH WORDS, SUBVERTING
YOUR SOULS, SAYING, YE MUST BE CIRCUMCISED, AND KEEP THE LAW: TO WHOM
WE GAVE NO SUCH COMMANDMENT-Acts 15:24.
15-THE
  LAW COULD NOT JUSTIFY PEOPLE

It is written, ALL THINGS, FROM WHICH YE COULD NOT BE JUSTIFIED BY THE LAW
  OF MOSES-Acts 13:39.
BY THE DEEDS OF THE LAW
THERE SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED IN
HIS SIGHT: FOR BY THE LAW IS THE KNOWLEDGE OF SIN-Ro 3:20.
For KNOWING THAT A MAN IS NOT
JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW,…FOR BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW SHALL
  NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED-Gal 2:16.
BUT THAT NO MAN IS JUSTIFIED
BY THE LAW IN THE SIGHT OF GOD, IT IS EVIDENT: FOR, THE JUST SHALL LIVE
BY FAITH. AND THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH: BUT, THE MAN THAT DOETH THEM SHALL
  LIVE IN THEM-Gal 3:11,12.
     BUT IN THOSE SACRIFICES
THERE IS A REMEMBRANCE AGAIN MADE OF SINS EVERY YEAR. FOR IT IS NOT POSSIBLE
THAT THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND OF GOATS SHOULD TAKE AWAY SINS-Heb 10:3,4.
     For HE SAID, SACRIFICE AND
OFFERING AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND OFFERING FOR SIN THOU WOULDEST NOT, NEITHER
HADST PLEASURE THEREIN; WHICH ARE OFFERED BY THE LAW-Heb 10:8.
16-A
PERSON'S OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS IS OF THE LAW
A person that tries to enter heaven by his own righteousness, without Jesus, is not under grace, but is under law. It is written, MINE OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS, WHICH IS OF THE LAW-Phili 3:9.
17-ALL
  UNDER THE LAW ARE CURSED
It is written, FOR AS MANY AS ARE OF THE WORKS OF THE LAW ARE UNDER THE CURSE: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, CURSED IS EVERY ONE THAT CONTINUETH NOT IN ALL THINGS WHICH ARE WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW TO DO THEM-Gal 3:10.
18-THE
LAW IS OUR SCHOOLMASTER TO BRING US TO CHRIST

It is written, IS THE LAW THEN AGAINST THE PROMISES OF GOD? GOD FORBID: FOR
IF THERE HAD BEEN A LAW GIVEN WHICH COULD HAVE GIVEN LIFE, VERILY RIGHTEOUSNESS
SHOULD HAVE BEEN BY THE LAW. BUT THE SCRIPTURE HATH CONCLUDED ALL UNDER
SIN,…BUT BEFORE FAITH CAME, WE WERE KEPT UNDER THE LAW, SHUT
UP UNTO THE FAITH WHICH SHOULD AFTERWARDS BE REVEALED. WHEREFORE THE
LAW WAS OUR SCHOOLMASTER TO BRING US UNTO CHRIST, THAT
WE MIGHT BE JUSTIFIED BY FAITH. BUT AFTER THAT FAITH IS COME,
WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER A SCHOOLMASTER-Gal 3:21-25.
     Prior to John, people looked
forward in faith to the coming of the Messiah that had been promised in both
the Law and the Prophets. The people were kept shut up under the law or schoolmaster
until Jesus would be revealed. It is written, ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS
COUNTED UNTO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS-Ro 4:3; ref Gal 3:6; Ja 2:23. Ro 4:16 speaks
of the FAITH OF ABRAHAM. This is further confirmed in Hebrews chapter eleven.
It is written, BY FAITH ABEL
  OFFERED-Heb 11:4
     BY FAITH ENOCH WAS TRANSLATED-Heb
  11:5
     BY FAITH NOAH…PREPARED-Heb
  11:7
     BY FAITH ABRAHAM…OBEYED-Heb
  11:8, and many more.
Since Jesus has come, we now
receive Him by faith. We now look forward to His second coming.
It is written, DESIRING TO BE TEACHERS OF THE LAW; UNDERSTANDING NEITHER WHAT THEY SAY, NOR WHEREOF THEY AFFIRM. BUT WE KNOW THAT THE LAW IS GOOD, IF A MAN USE IT LAWFULLY-1 Tim 1:7,8.
20-ALMOST
  ALL THINGS PURGED WITH BLOOD
It is written, AND ALMOST ALL THINGS ARE BY THE LAW PURGED WITH BLOOD; AND WITHOUT SHEDDING OF BLOOD IS NO REMISSION-Heb 9:22.
It is written, IF THEREFORE PERFECTION WERE BY THE LEVITICAL PRIESTHOOD, (FOR UNDER IT THE PEOPLE RECEIVED THE LAW,) WHAT FURTHER NEED WAS THERE THAT ANOTHER PRIEST SHOULD RISE AFTER THE ORDER OF MELCHISEDEC, AND NOT BE CALLED AFTER THE ORDER OF AARON? FOR THE PRIESTHOOD BEING CHANGED, THERE IS MADE OF NECESSITY A CHANGE ALSO OF THE LAW-Heb 7:11,12.
It is written, AND HE (Jesus) SAID UNTO THEM, THESE ARE THE WORDS WHICH I SPAKE UNTO YOU, WHILE I WAS YET WITH YOU, THAT ALL THINGS MUST BE FULFILLED, WHICH WERE WRITTEN IN THE LAW OF MOSES, AND IN THE PROPHETS, AND IN THE PSALMS, CONCERNING ME-Lk 24:44.
23-THE
  LAW LOOKED TOWARD JESUS

The Law and the Prophets pointed to the day when the Messiah would come.
     It is written, PHILIP FINDETH
NATHANAEL, AND SAITH UNTO HIM, WE HAVE FOUND HIM, OF WHOM MOSES IN
THE LAW, AND THE PROPHETS, DID WRITE, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE SON
  OF JOSEPH-Jn 1:45.
     BUT NOW THE RIGHTEOUSNESS
OF GOD WITHOUT THE LAW IS MANIFESTED, BEING WITNESSED BY THE LAW AND
THE PROPHETS; EVEN THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD WHICH IS BY FAITH
OF JESUS CHRIST UNTO ALL AND UPON ALL THEM THAT BELIEVE: FOR THERE IS NO
DIFFERENCE: FOR ALL HAVE SINNED, AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD-Ro
  3:21-23.
     FOR THE LAW MADE NOTHING
PERFECT, BUT THE BRINGING IN OF A BETTER HOPE DID; BY THE WHICH WE DRAW
  NIGH UNTO GOD-Heb 7:19.
     FOR THE LAW HAVING A
SHADOW OF GOOD THINGS TO COME, AND NOT THE VERY IMAGE OF THE THINGS, CAN
NEVER WITH THOSE SACRIFICES WHICH THEY OFFERED YEAR BY YEAR CONTINUALLY MAKE
  THE COMERS THEREUNTO PERFECT-Heb 10:1.
     Indeed, many of the prophets
that had prophesied about the coming of the Messiah were slain. As it is written,
WHICH OF THE PROPHETS HAVE NOT YOUR FATHERS PERSECUTED? AND THEY HAVE
  SLAIN THEM WHICH SHEWED BEFORE OF THE COMING OF THE JUST ONE;
OF WHOM YE HAVE BEEN NOW THE BETRAYERS AND MURDERERS-Acts 7:52.
It is written, FOR THE LAW WAS GIVEN BY MOSES, BUT GRACE AND TRUTH CAME BY JESUS CHRIST-Jn 1:17.
25-JESUS
SAID HE CAME TO FULFILL THE LAW

It is written, THINK NOT THAT I AM COME TO DESTROY THE LAW, OR THE PROPHETS:
I AM NOT COME TO DESTROY, BUT TO FULFIL-Mt 5:17.
In many places in the Law and
the Prophets, there are prophecies of the coming of the Messiah. Jesus came
  to fulfill the Law.
26-SOME
SEEK HEAVEN (OR RIGHTEOUSNESS) THE WRONG WAY

It is written, BUT ISRAEL, WHICH FOLLOWED AFTER THE LAW OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, HATH
NOT ATTAINED TO THE LAW OF RIGHTEOUSNESS-Ro 9:31.
FOR CHRIST IS THE END OF THE
LAW FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS TO EVERY ONE THAT BELIEVETH-Ro 10:4. Righteousness is
by faith in Jesus. There is no other way. To seek to be justified by the Law
  will result in death.
27-SOME
SEEK HEAVEN THE WRONG WAY: THEY DESIRE TO BE UNDER THE LAW

It is written, TELL ME, YE THAT DESIRE TO BE UNDER THE LAW, DO YE NOT
HEAR THE LAW? FOR IT IS WRITTEN, THAT ABRAHAM HAD TWO SONS, THE ONE BY A BONDMAID,
THE OTHER BY A FREEWOMAN. BUT HE WHO WAS OF THE BONDWOMAN WAS
BORN AFTER THE FLESH; BUT HE OF THE FREEWOMAN WAS BY PROMISE. WHICH THINGS
ARE AN ALLEGORY: FOR THESE ARE THE TWO COVENANTS; THE ONE FROM
THE MOUNT SINAI, WHICH GENDERETH TO BONDAGE, WHICH IS AGAR. FOR THIS
AGAR IS MOUNT SINAI IN ARABIA, AND ANSWERETH TO JERUSALEM WHICH NOW IS, AND
IS IN BONDAGE WITH HER CHILDREN. BUT JERUSALEM WHICH IS ABOVE IS FREE,
WHICH IS THE MOTHER OF US ALL-Gal 4:21-26.
BUT AS THEN HE THAT WAS BORN
AFTER THE FLESH PERSECUTED HIM THAT WAS BORN AFTER THE SPIRIT, EVEN SO IT
  IS NOW-Gal 4:29.
     NEVERTHELESS WHAT SAITH THE
SCRIPTURE? CAST OUT THE BONDWOMAN AND HER SON: FOR THE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN
SHALL NOT BE HEIR WITH THE SON OF THE FREEWOMAN. SO THEN, BRETHREN, WE ARE
NOT CHILDREN OF THE BONDWOMAN, BUT OF THE FREE-Gal 4:30,31.
28-JESUS
  WAS BORN UNDER THE LAW
It is written, BUT WHEN THE FULNESS OF THE TIME WAS COME, GOD SENT FORTH HIS SON, MADE OF A WOMAN, MADE (or born) UNDER THE LAW, TO REDEEM THEM THAT WERE UNDER THE LAW, THAT WE MIGHT RECEIVE THE ADOPTION OF SONS-Gal 4:4,5.
29-JUSTIFIED
  ONLY THROUGH JESUS

It is written, BE IT KNOWN UNTO YOU THEREFORE, MEN AND BRETHREN, THAT THROUGH
THIS MAN (which is Jesus) IS PREACHED UNTO YOU THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS: AND
BY HIM ALL THAT BELIEVE ARE JUSTIFIED FROM ALL THINGS, FROM WHICH
YE COULD NOT BE JUSTIFIED BY THE LAW OF MOSES-Acts 13:38,39.
     KNOWING THAT A MAN IS…JUSTIFIED…BY
THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST, EVEN WE HAVE BELIEVED IN JESUS CHRIST, THAT WE MIGHT
BE JUSTIFIED BY THE FAITH OF CHRIST, AND NOT BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW-Gal
  2:16.

It is written, FOR AS MANY AS HAVE SINNED WITHOUT LAW SHALL ALSO PERISH
WITHOUT LAW: AND AS MANY AS HAVE SINNED IN THE LAW SHALL BE JUDGED BY
THE LAW; (FOR NOT THE HEARERS OF THE LAW ARE JUST BEFORE GOD, BUT THE DOERS
OF THE LAW SHALL BE JUSTIFIED)-Ro 2:12,13.
WHOM GOD HATH SET FORTH TO
BE A PROPITIATION THROUGH FAITH IN HIS BLOOD, TO DECLARE HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS
FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS THAT ARE PAST, THROUGH THE FORBEARANCE OF GOD; TO
DECLARE, I SAY, AT THIS TIME HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS: THAT HE MIGHT
BE JUST, AND THE JUSTIFIER OF HIM WHICH BELIEVETH IN JESUS. WHERE
IS BOASTING THEN? IT IS EXCLUDED. BY WHAT LAW? OF WORKS? NAY: BUT
BY THE LAW OF FAITH. THEREFORE WE CONCLUDE THAT A MAN IS JUSTIFIED BY
FAITH WITHOUT THE DEEDS OF THE LAW. SEEING IT IS ONE GOD, WHICH SHALL
JUSTIFY THE CIRCUMCISION BY FAITH, AND UNCIRCUMCISION
  THROUGH FAITH-Ro 3:25-28,30.
THIS ONLY WOULD I LEARN OF
YOU, RECEIVED YE THE SPIRIT BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW, OR BY THE HEARING
  OF FAITH?-Gal 3:2.
      THAT THE BLESSING OF
ABRAHAM MIGHT COME ON THE GENTILES THROUGH JESUS CHRIST; THAT WE MIGHT RECEIVE
THE PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT THROUGH FAITH-Gal 3:14.
     BUT THE SCRIPTURE HATH CONCLUDED
ALL UNDER SIN, THAT THE PROMISE BY FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST MIGHT
BE GIVEN TO THEM THAT BELIEVE. FOR YE ARE ALL THE CHILDREN OF GOD BY FAITH
IN CHRIST JESUS. FOR AS MANY OF YOU AS HAVE BEEN BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST
  HAVE PUT ON CHRIST-Gal 3:22,26,27.
AND IF YE BE CHRIST'S, THEN
ARE YE ABRAHAM'S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE-Gal 3:29.
31-CHRIST
REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW

The Scriptures have shown us that the Law could not justify any person. They
have shown us that AS MANY AS ARE OF THE WORKS OF THE LAW ARE UNDER THE CURSE-Gal
  3:10.
But the good news is that
CHRIST HATH REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW, BEING MADE A CURSE FOR
US: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, CURSED IS EVERY ONE THAT HANGETH ON A TREE-Gal 3:13.
32-IF
RIGHTEOUSNESS IS BY THE LAW, THEN CHRIST IS DEAD IN VAIN

It might be asked, if the Law could save a person, then why did Christ die?
If the Law could save a person, or a person could save himself, or a person
could be saved by simply trying to be a good person, or a person could be saved
by his own good works, then the death of Jesus was a waste. It was a huge mistake.
But such is not the case.
It is written, I DO NOT FRUSTRATE
THE GRACE OF GOD: FOR IF RIGHTEOUSNESS COME BY THE LAW, THEN CHRIST IS DEAD
IN VAIN-Gal 2:21. It is only through faith in Jesus that a person can be
  saved.
33-CONDITIONS—CIRCUMCISION
  OF THE HEART

One might ask, are there any conditions to being saved? It is written, BUT HE
IS A JEW, WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; AND CIRCUMCISION IS THAT OF
THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; WHOSE PRAISE IS NOT OF
MEN, BUT OF GOD-Ro 2:29. A person's heart needs to be circumcised. Repentance
needs to take place. A person needs to be born-again.
     It is further written, THAT
THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF THE LAW MIGHT BE FULFILLED IN US, WHO WALK NOT
AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT-Ro 8:4.
THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION
TO THEM WHICH ARE IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER
  THE SPIRIT-Ro 8:1.
     BUT IF YE BE LED
OF THE SPIRIT, YE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW-Gal 5:18.
     AND THEY THAT ARE CHRIST'S
HAVE CRUCIFIED THE FLESH WITH THE AFFECTIONS AND LUSTS. IF WE LIVE
IN THE SPIRIT, LET US ALSO WALK IN THE SPIRIT. LET US NOT BE DESIROUS
OF VAIN GLORY, PROVOKING ONE ANOTHER, ENVYING ONE ANOTHER-Gal
  5:24-26.
     Several things are stated here
  by God's Word. They include:
     WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH
     WALK…AFTER THE SPIRIT
     LED OF THE SPIRIT
     HAVE CRUCIFIED THE FLESH
     LIVE IN THE SPIRIT
     Do NOT desire VAIN GLORY
     Do not provoke one another
     Do not envy one another.
To walk, be led, and live
in the Spirit is to WALK, BE LED, AND LIVE IN GOD'S WORD. This
  requires repentance.
To walk after the Spirit, to
crucify the flesh, not desiring vain glory, not provoking each other, and not
  envying others, requires repentance.
Many go to church. Many name
the name of Jesus as their Savior, but FEW can be called born-again when truthfully
considering what God's Word has just said. It may be said, "few" people
have truly repented and diligently search God's Word that they may walk in God's
  Word.
     It is further written, BUT
WHOSO LOOKETH INTO THE PERFECT LAW OF LIBERTY, AND CONTINUETH THEREIN,
HE BEING NOT A FORGETFUL HEARER, BUT A DOER OF THE WORK, THIS MAN SHALL
BE BLESSED IN HIS DEED-Ja 1:25.
     Several things are also stated
here by God's Word. They include:
     Looking into the perfect law
  of liberty
Continuing in the law of liberty
     Not forgetting God's Word
     Doing God's work
Many people look into the law
of liberty, but they do not continue in the law of liberty as persecutions,
sufferings, difficulties, temptations, and many other things come against them.
They forget God's Word. They stop doing God's work.
BEING JUSTIFIED FREELY BY HIS GRACE THROUGH THE REDEMPTION THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS-Ro 3:24. Grace is a free gift. We are justified freely. That justification does not come by wishing for it. It comes through faith in Jesus. Repentance must take place. After a person repents, after a person believes on Jesus, he is commanded to be baptized by full immersion. It is written, HE THAT BELIEVETH AND IS BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED; BUT HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT SHALL BE DAMNED-Mk 16:16.
35-FREE
FROM THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH

It is written, FOR THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS HATH
MADE ME FREE FROM THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH-Ro 8:2. Once a person has
the Spirit of life, he is saved. He is free from the law of sin and death. It
is written, BUT YE ARE…IN THE SPIRIT, IF SO BE THAT THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELL
IN YOU. NOW IF ANY MAN HAVE NOT THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, HE IS NONE
  OF HIS-Ro 8:9.
HEREBY KNOW WE THAT WE DWELL
IN HIM, AND HE IN US, BECAUSE HE HATH GIVEN US OF HIS SPIRIT-1 Jn 4:13.
     FOR AS THE BODY WITHOUT
THE SPIRIT IS DEAD, SO FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD ALSO-Ja 2:26.
36-TRUE
  CIRCUMCISION IS OF THE HEART
It is written, BUT HE IS A JEW, WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; AND CIRCUMCISION IS THAT OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; WHOSE PRAISE IS NOT OF MEN, BUT OF GOD-Ro 2:29.
37-NOT
UNDER THE LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE
It is written, FOR SIN SHALL NOT HAVE DOMINION OVER YOU: FOR YE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE. WHAT THEN? SHALL WE SIN, BECAUSE WE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE? GOD FORBID. KNOW YE NOT, THAT TO WHOM YE YIELD YOURSELVES SERVANTS TO OBEY, HIS SERVANTS YE ARE TO WHOM YE OBEY; WHETHER OF SIN UNTO DEATH, OR OF OBEDIENCE UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS?-Ro 6:14-16. Sin does not lead to righteousness. Sin leads to spiritual death.
38-THE
  LAW IN ORDINANCES ABOLISHED
It is written, HAVING ABOLISHED IN HIS FLESH THE ENMITY, EVEN THE LAW OF COMMANDMENTS CONTAINED IN ORDINANCES; FOR TO MAKE IN HIMSELF OF TWAIN ONE NEW MAN, SO MAKING PEACE-Eph 2:15.
39-THE
  LAW ESTABLISHED THROUGH FAITH
It is written, DO WE THEN MAKE VOID THE LAW THROUGH FAITH? GOD FORBID: YEA, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW-Ro 3:31. Jesus came to fulfill the Law.
40-THE
EVIDENCE OF GRACE, THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
It is written, BUT THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONGSUFFERING, GENTLENESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MEEKNESS, TEMPERANCE: AGAINST SUCH THERE IS NO LAW-Gal 5:22,23.
41-WE
SHALL BE JUDGED BY THE LAW OF LIBERTY

It is written, SO SPEAK YE, AND SO DO, AS THEY THAT SHALL BE JUDGED BY THE LAW
  OF LIBERTY-Ja 2:12.
     Some make statements such as,
"I am not under any law." This is wrong. We are all under some law.
If we are not saved, we are under the law of sin and death. If we are under
this law, we need to repent and receive Jesus by faith.
If we are saved, we are under
the law of liberty, the law of faith, and the law of the Spirit of life. If
we are under this law, the Bible tells us, stand firm. Be strong. Grow in faith.
Do not shrink back. Do not go back. Beware. Take heed, lest ye fall.
It is written, BE SOBER, BE
VIGILANT; BECAUSE YOUR ADVERSARY THE DEVIL, AS A ROARING LION, WALKETH ABOUT,
SEEKING WHOM HE MAY DEVOUR: WHOM RESIST STEDFAST IN THE FAITH-1 Pe 5:8,9.
It is written, SPEAK NOT EVIL ONE OF ANOTHER, BRETHREN. HE THAT SPEAKETH EVIL OF HIS BROTHER, AND JUDGETH HIS BROTHER, SPEAKETH EVIL OF THE LAW, AND JUDGETH THE LAW: BUT IF THOU JUDGE THE LAW, THOU ART NOT A DOER OF THE LAW, BUT A JUDGE-Ja 4:11.
THE STING OF DEATH IS SIN; AND THE STRENGTH (or power) OF SIN IS THE LAW. BUT THANKS BE TO GOD, (He) WHICH GIVETH US THE VICTORY THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST-1 Cor 15:56,57.

1  WHAT SHALL WE SAY THEN? SHALL WE CONTINUE IN SIN, THAT GRACE MAY ABOUND
  (or increase)?
2  GOD FORBID. HOW SHALL WE, THAT ARE DEAD TO SIN, (still)
  LIVE ANY LONGER THEREIN?
3  KNOW YE NOT, THAT SO MANY OF US AS WERE BAPTIZED
INTO JESUS CHRIST WERE BAPTIZED INTO HIS DEATH?
4  THEREFORE WE ARE BURIED WITH HIM BY BAPTISM INTO
DEATH: THAT LIKE AS CHRIST WAS RAISED UP FROM THE DEAD BY THE GLORY OF THE FATHER,
EVEN SO WE ALSO SHOULD WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE.
5  FOR IF WE HAVE BEEN
PLANTED (or united) TOGETHER IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS DEATH, WE SHALL BE ALSO
(with Him) IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS RESURRECTION:
     6  KNOWING THIS, THAT
OUR OLD MAN (or old self) IS CRUCIFIED (or put to death) WITH HIM, (so) THAT
THE BODY OF SIN MIGHT BE DESTROYED (or done away with), THAT HENCEFORTH WE SHOULD
NOT SERVE (or be enslaved to) SIN.
7  FOR HE THAT IS DEAD
  IS FREED FROM SIN.
8  NOW IF WE BE DEAD WITH
CHRIST, WE BELIEVE (or trust) THAT WE SHALL ALSO LIVE WITH HIM:
9  KNOWING THAT CHRIST BEING RAISED FROM THE DEAD DIETH NO
MORE (or is never to die again); DEATH HATH NO MORE DOMINION (or authority)
  OVER HIM.
10 FOR IN THAT HE DIED, HE
DIED UNTO SIN ONCE (for all) (a unique event that need not be repeated-JNT):
BUT IN THAT HE LIVETH, HE LIVETH UNTO GOD.
11 LIKEWISE (in the same way)
RECKON (or consider) YE ALSO YOURSELVES TO BE DEAD INDEED UNTO SIN, BUT ALIVE
UNTO GOD THROUGH (or by your union with) JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.
12 LET NOT (or do not let)
SIN THEREFORE REIGN (or rule) IN YOUR MORTAL BODY, THAT YE SHOULD OBEY IT IN
  THE LUSTS (or desires) THEREOF.
13 NEITHER YIELD YE (or do
not go on presenting-NAS) YOUR MEMBERS (or any part of yourselves) AS INSTRUMENTS
OF UNRIGHTEOUSNESS (or wickedness) UNTO SIN: BUT YIELD (or offer) YOURSELVES
UNTO GOD, AS THOSE THAT ARE ALIVE FROM THE DEAD, AND YOUR MEMBERS (or various
parts) AS INSTRUMENTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO GOD.
14 FOR SIN SHALL NOT HAVE DOMINION
(or authority) OVER YOU: FOR YE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE.
15 WHAT THEN? SHALL WE SIN,
BECAUSE WE ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE? GOD FORBID.
16 KNOW YE NOT, THAT TO WHOM
YE YIELD (or present) YOURSELVES SERVANTS (or slaves) TO OBEY, HIS SERVANTS
(or slaves) YE ARE TO WHOM YE OBEY; WHETHER OF SIN UNTO DEATH, OR OF OBEDIENCE
  UNTO (or resulting in) RIGHTEOUSNESS?
     17 BUT GOD BE THANKED,
THAT YE WERE THE SERVANTS (or slaves) OF SIN, BUT YE HAVE OBEYED (or became
obedient) FROM THE HEART THAT FORM (or pattern) OF DOCTRINE (or teaching) WHICH
WAS DELIVERED (to) YOU (to which you were committed-NAS).
     18 BEING THEN MADE FREE
FROM SIN, YE BECAME THE SERVANTS (or slaves) OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.
19 I SPEAK AFTER THE MANNER
OF MEN (or am using popular language or in human terms) BECAUSE OF THE INFIRMITY
(or human nature or weakness) OF YOUR FLESH: FOR AS YE HAVE YIELDED (or presented)
YOUR MEMBERS (or various parts) SERVANTS (or slaves) TO UNCLEANNESS (or impurity)
  AND TO INIQUITY UNTO INIQUITY (or lawlessness, which led to more lawlessness-JNT);
EVEN SO NOW YIELD (or present) YOUR MEMBERS (or various parts) SERVANTS (or
slaves) TO RIGHTEOUSNESS UNTO HOLINESS (or sanctification) (set apart for God).
20 FOR WHEN YE WERE THE SERVANTS
(or slaves) OF SIN, YE WERE FREE FROM RIGHTEOUSNESS.
     21 WHAT FRUIT (or benefit)
HAD YE THEN IN THOSE THINGS WHEREOF YE ARE NOW ASHAMED? FOR THE END (result
or outcome) OF THOSE THINGS IS DEATH.
22 BUT NOW BEING MADE FREE
FROM SIN, AND BECOME SERVANTS (or enslaved) TO GOD, YE HAVE YOUR FRUIT (or benefit)
UNTO HOLINESS (or sanctification) (or set apart for God), AND THE END (result
  is) EVERLASTING LIFE.
23 FOR THE WAGES (or what one
earns) OF SIN IS DEATH; BUT (what one receives) THE (free) GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL
LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD-Ro 6:1-23.

1  KNOW YE NOT, BRETHREN, (FOR I SPEAK TO THEM THAT KNOW (or understand)
THE LAW, HOW THAT THE LAW HATH DOMINION (or authority or jurisdiction) OVER
A MAN AS LONG AS HE LIVETH?
2  FOR THE WOMAN WHICH HATH AN HUSBAND IS BOUND BY THE
LAW TO HER HUSBAND SO LONG AS HE LIVETH; BUT IF THE HUSBAND BE DEAD, SHE IS
LOOSED (or released) FROM THE LAW OF HER HUSBAND.
3  SO THEN IF, WHILE HER
HUSBAND LIVETH, SHE BE MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN, SHE SHALL BE CALLED AN ADULTERESS:
BUT IF HER HUSBAND BE DEAD, SHE IS FREE FROM THAT LAW; SO THAT SHE IS NO ADULTERESS,
THOUGH SHE BE MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN.
     4  WHEREFORE, MY BRETHREN,
YE ALSO ARE BECOME DEAD TO THE LAW BY THE BODY OF CHRIST; THAT YE SHOULD BE
MARRIED (or joined) TO ANOTHER, EVEN TO HIM WHO IS RAISED FROM THE DEAD (which
is Jesus), THAT WE SHOULD BRING FORTH FRUIT UNTO GOD.
5  FOR WHEN WE WERE IN
THE FLESH (or living according to our old nature-JNT), THE MOTIONS (or passions)
OF SINS, WHICH WERE BY THE LAW, DID WORK IN OUR MEMBERS (or various parts) TO
  BRING FORTH FRUIT UNTO DEATH.
      6  BUT NOW WE ARE
DELIVERED (or released) FROM THE LAW, THAT BEING DEAD (or because we have died)
WHEREIN WE WERE HELD (or bound); THAT WE SHOULD SERVE IN NEWNESS (or a new way
provided) OF SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE OLDNESS (or old way) OF (or following) THE
  LETTER (of the law).
      7  WHAT SHALL WE
SAY THEN? IS THE LAW SIN? GOD FORBID. NAY, I HAD NOT KNOWN (what) SIN (is),
BUT BY THE LAW: FOR (example) I HAD NOT KNOWN (or become conscious of) LUST
(or greed or coveting), EXCEPT THE LAW HAD SAID, THOU SHALT NOT COVET.
     8  BUT SIN, TAKING OCCASION
(or seizing the opportunity) BY THE COMMANDMENT, WROUGHT (or worked) IN ME ALL
MANNER (or kinds) OF CONCUPISCENCE (or evil desires or coveting). FOR WITHOUT
  THE LAW SIN WAS DEAD.
9  FOR I WAS (once) ALIVE
WITHOUT (or outside the framework of or apart from) THE LAW ONCE: BUT WHEN THE
COMMANDMENT CAME (or encountered me), SIN REVIVED (or sprang to life), AND I
  DIED.
     10 AND THE COMMANDMENT, WHICH
WAS ORDAINED TO (or intended to bring me) LIFE, I FOUND TO BE UNTO DEATH.
     11 FOR SIN, TAKING OCCASION
(or seizing the opportunity) BY THE COMMANDMENT, DECEIVED ME, AND BY
IT SLEW ME (sin killed me).
12 WHEREFORE THE LAW IS HOLY,
AND THE COMMANDMENT HOLY, AND JUST (or righteous), AND GOOD.
13 WAS THEN THAT WHICH IS GOOD
MADE (or become a cause or source of) DEATH UNTO ME? GOD FORBID. BUT SIN, THAT
IT MIGHT APPEAR SIN, WORKING DEATH IN ME BY THAT WHICH IS GOOD; (so) THAT SIN
BY THE COMMANDMENT MIGHT BECOME EXCEEDING SINFUL (or sinful beyond measure).
14 FOR WE KNOW THAT THE LAW
IS SPIRITUAL ( or of the Spirit): BUT I AM CARNAL (bound to the old nature-JNT),
SOLD UNDER SIN (as a slave).
15 FOR THAT WHICH I DO I ALLOW
NOT (I do not understand): FOR WHAT I WOULD, THAT DO I NOT; BUT WHAT I HATE,
THAT DO I (I don't do what I want to do; instead, I do the very thing I hate!).
16 IF THEN I DO THAT WHICH
I WOULD (or wish) NOT, I CONSENT (or am agreeing) UNTO (or with) THE LAW THAT
  IT IS GOOD.
17 (But) NOW THEN IT IS NO
MORE I (or the real me) THAT DO IT, BUT SIN THAT DWELLETH (or housed) IN ME.
18 FOR I KNOW THAT IN ME (THAT
IS, IN MY FLESH,) DWELLETH NO GOOD THING (there is nothing good housed inside
me-JNT): FOR TO WILL (my old nature) IS PRESENT WITH ME; BUT HOW TO PERFORM
THAT WHICH IS GOOD I FIND NOT (I can't do it!).
      19 FOR THE GOOD THAT
I WOULD (or want) I DO NOT (do): BUT THE (very) EVIL WHICH I WOULD NOT (or don't
want), THAT (is what) I DO.
20 NOW IF I DO THAT I (the
real me) WOULD NOT, IT IS NO MORE I (the real me) THAT DO IT, BUT SIN THAT DWELLETH
  (or housed) IN ME.
21 I FIND THEN A LAW (or rule
or principle), THAT, WHEN I WOULD (or want to) DO GOOD, EVIL IS PRESENT (or
  right there) WITH ME.
22 FOR I DELIGHT (or completely
agree) IN THE LAW OF GOD AFTER THE INWARD MAN (or inner self):
     23 BUT I SEE ANOTHER LAW (a
different law) IN MY MEMBERS, (or various parts) WARRING (or waging war) AGAINST
THE LAW OF MY MIND, AND BRINGING ME INTO CAPTIVITY (or making me a prisoner)
TO THE LAW OF SIN WHICH IS IN MY MEMBERS (or various parts).
     24 O WRETCHED MAN (what a miserable
creature) THAT I AM! WHO SHALL DELIVER (or rescue or set) ME (free) FROM THE
BODY OF THIS DEATH (or body bound for death)?
25 I THANK GOD (He will) THROUGH
JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD. (To sum up) SO THEN WITH THE MIND I MYSELF SERVE (or
am a slave of) THE LAW OF GOD; BUT WITH THE FLESH (with my old nature, I am
  a slave of-JNT) THE LAW OF SIN-Ro 7:1-25.
